Dr. Giulia Farnocchia | Environmental Science | Research Excellence Award
Sulzer | Switzerland
Giulia Farnocchia’s research focuses on sustainable chemical engineering, catalytic processes, and circular economy solutions. Her work centers on aqueous phase reforming of biomassderived wastewaters for renewable hydrogen production, integrating experimental catalysis with life cycle assessment (LCA) and techno-economic analysis (TEA) to evaluate environmental and economic feasibility. She investigates catalyst development, including Ru/CeO₂ systems, and process optimization using advanced analytical and modeling tools such as Aspen Plus. Her research also addresses plastic waste valorization through pyrolysis oil upgrading for improved recyclability. By combining catalysis, process modeling, and sustainability assessment, her work supports scalable, low-carbon technologies for energy recovery and resource-efficient industrial processes
