Mr. Jean Marie Vianney Nsigayehe | Ecology | Research Excellence Award

Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, CAS | China

Jean Marie Vianney Nsigayehe is an agricultural researcher with a strong academic foundation in agronomy and crop science, specializing in plant–soil interactions and sustainable crop production systems. He holds a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Agronomy from the University of Rwanda, College of Agriculture, Animal Science, and Veterinary Medicine, where he developed a solid grounding in crop cultivation, soil management, and plant nutrition. He later pursued a Master of Science in Crop Science at Lanzhou University, China, within the College of Pastoral Agriculture Science and Technology. His master’s research focuses on soybean (Glycine max), with particular emphasis on germination responses to abiotic stress factors such as temperature, water stress, and light duration. In addition, his work investigates the role of soybean in natural soil fertility restoration through biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) in the Qingyang Loess Plateau, contributing to sustainable soil management strategies in fragile agro-ecosystems. These studies aim to enhance crop resilience and improve soil nutrient dynamics under stress-prone environmental conditions. Jean Marie’s research interests include soil nutrient restoration, crop abiotic stress tolerance, plant nutrition, crop cultivation systems, and soil conservation practices. He is currently preparing peer-reviewed manuscripts based on his completed experimental work, with one study under review and another in preparation. Complementing his scientific training, he has also developed proficiency in the Chinese language, achieving HSK Level 5, which supports his engagement in international academic collaboration. His work reflects a commitment to advancing sustainable agriculture through research-driven solutions.
