🎓Early Academic Pursuits 📚
Chioma G. Apebende embarked on her academic journey with a Bachelor of Science in Pure Chemistry from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State, Nigeria, graduating in 2005. She continued to expand her educational horizons with a Post Graduate Diploma in Education from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, in 2010. Her passion for chemistry led her to pursue a Master of Science in Natural Products Chemistry at the University of Calabar, where she graduated with a CGPA of 4.40/5.00 in 2017. Currently, she is a Ph.D. candidate in Natural Products Chemistry at the University of Calabar, expected to complete her doctorate in 2024.
💼Professional Endeavors
Chioma G. Apebende has been a dedicated educator and researcher. She began her teaching career as a Chemistry Teacher at the State Secondary School Education Board in Calabar from 2007 to 2017. Since July 2017, she has been a Lecturer in the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry at the University of Calabar. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she serves as an Investigator in the Computational and Bio-Simulation Research Group at the University.

Chioma’s research focuses on computational chemistry, drug design using molecular docking and molecular dynamics, and electronic structure based on density functional theory (DFT) to investigate material properties and applications. Her work includes the study of pristine and metal-doped MC59 (M = Au, Hf, Hg, Ir) as drug delivery candidates for Nitrosourea drugs and the synthesis, DFT studies, and in silico biological evaluation of novel isoquinoline-based azo-dyes against breast cancer receptors.

Notably, she was awarded the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) Institutional-Based Research Grant in 2020/2021 and won the 2nd Best Poster Award at the Chemical Society of Nigeria’s 46th Annual International Conference, Workshop & Exhibition in September 2023.
