Dr. Mohd Hazizan bin Mohd Hashim is a distinguished academic and professional engineer specializing in geotechnical and geomechanical engineering. He has been serving as a University Lecturer at the School of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) since 2011. He earned both his BEng. (Hons.) and MSc. in Mineral Resources Engineering from USM, followed by a Ph.D. in Mining (Geomechanics) from the University of New South Wales, Australia. Before joining academia, Dr. Hazizan gained valuable industrial experience with the Lion Group of Malaysia, where he contributed to major steel manufacturing projects, including the construction and commissioning of one of the world’s largest lime kiln plants. His research encompasses a wide range of topics, including geotechnical and geomechanics, mining and quarrying, blasting technology, environmental sustainability, mineral processing, and numerical modelling. In parallel with his academic career, Dr. Hazizan has demonstrated exemplary leadership in the Malaysian Territorial Army (Rejimen Askar Wataniah), rising to the rank of Major and serving as Head of the Training Section for PALAPES USM. His notable recognitions include Best Overall Student and Best Presenter awards from Pusat Latihan Askar Wataniah. Dr. Hazizan is a Professional Engineer (P.Eng-Mineral Resources), Professional Technologist (P.Tech-Resource Based), and Fellow of the Institute of Quarrying (FIQ). He is also an NLP-certified coach and trainer, reflecting his passion for leadership development and human capital enhancement. His multidisciplinary expertise continues to advance engineering education and sustainable resource development.
