Dr. Lisette Mbuyi Kalonji | Immunology and Microbiology | Women Researcher Award

Institut National de Recherche Biomédicale | Congo, Democratic Republic of the

Dr. Lisette Mbuyi Kalonji’s research focuses on infectious diseases, with particular emphasis on the epidemiology, microbiology, and surveillance of invasive and non-typhoidal Salmonella infections in sub-Saharan Africa. Her work integrates clinical microbiology, molecular epidemiology, and public health approaches to investigate pathogen transmission, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and disease burden. She has contributed to multicenter studies involving genomic characterization of drug-resistant Salmonella strains and their host adaptation. Her research also examines co-infections, including Salmonella-Schistosoma interactions, and environmental determinants such as rainfall influencing infection dynamics. Additionally, she is actively involved in AMR surveillance systems and One Health initiatives to strengthen disease prevention and control strategies.
